Blog #2
In today’s blog I’ll be going through everything that’s helped MY skin through mild eczema.
For those that have ever encountered eczema know that it’s a slightly discouraging. It’s super itchy and there isn’t a real solution besides moving to a tropical place. (Hawaii anyone ?) Doctors try selling you “the cure” which is a 50ml tube that costs a little more than a scooter and it still doesn’t work.
It’s about 2 years now that I have eczema (mostly in winter) and I’ve been experimenting with products, googling information and speaking to my clients/friends that have eczema ever since then. I started off with lathering organic coconut oil all over my body during every shower after I’d wash but before I shut off the water. Coconut oil can get messy, so I prefer using it in the shower and then patting off the excess oil off while I pat my skin dry. It helped, but minimally and those I know with a more severe case came back to me with negative reviews - Ya, it was soothing but that’s about all. (This could be a great solution for those of you with slightly dehydrated skin).
I proceeded to adjust/improve my recipe by mixing vitamin E to my coconut. It was better, but still not enough for our -31 weather + heating + fireplace + + + + blah blah blah.
My next improvement was adding grape seed oil to the mix AND using only grape seed oil on bigger eczema spots. In my case, the mix helped tame the itch a lot almost immediately. The direct grape seed helped even more and didn’t take long for the patches to START (it’s obviously not Cinderella’s godmother) healing, but do keep in mind I have mild eczema and I DO use this DAILY.
While all this “experimenting” was going on a friend posted that she just opened a small business of home-made organic body products called ElskaBody. HELLO ! My attention was all hers. I started off by ordering 1 item (a sugar scrub), I didn’t want to go crazy just yet I’m picky with my products and wanted to test things out slowly slowly first. Tried it the day I received it and it was love at first sight. I straight away bought a whipped body butter (I’m currently on my 3rd 8oz container). It was the perfect addition to the family.
Another tiny tip is to be cautious what you wash your body with, make sure there aren’t too many chemicals and artificial fragrances.
So what’s my solution to taming and slowly healing my eczema you may ask ? I’ve developed a DAILY routine where I’ll coat my entire body or where I feel it’s needed most with my homemade mix (consisting of coconut oil, vitamin E and Grape seed oil) during my shower. I almost ALWAYS put it on my face and also use it as spot treatment during the day if I feel the need. For my more stubborn patches I spot treat with JUST grape seed oil at least twice a day. Then the last step is I use my ElskaBody whipped body butter (Ingredients: coconut oil, shea butter, sweet almond oil, Fragrance of your choice) from my neck to the top of my feet.
I support those that have extreme dry or eczema’d skin any or all of these tricks. I’d love to hear your feedback !
