Blog #3 In today’s blog I will be guiding you through healing poison ivy, that nasty (b)itch ! Please note that if you’re allergy to poison ivy is life threatening don’t even bother trying any of this just GO TO THE HOSPITAL !! Please and thank you. I love being out in nature, but I HATE poison ivy. The itch of eczema has NOTHING on a poison ivy itch AND poison ivy can NOT be scratched or else you’ll burst the blister, release the oils and you’ll spread the reaction and break out into more blisters. You also don’t want any of the oil under your nails, it’s really a never ending story if not treated properly. First and foremost try be able to spot a poison ivy plant ( I will post a picture below of a helpful guide I found online), but also know that you CAN still get a reaction without coming in physical contact with the plant itself – but minimizing the odds is never a bad idea. If you know you’ll be somewhere where poison ivy can make an appearance, try wearing long pants and if possible a long sleeve shirt as well. I know it’s a little hard to do on the hotter days and no always super fashionable, but I guess you got to choose the lesser of two evils. What to do when you’re pretty sure you came in contact with a poison ivy plant or something that carried poison ivy oil on it: Try wash whatever body part you think came in contact with ivy as quickly after contact as possible ! What to do if immediate washing wasn’t enough and 24-48 hours later, more blisters show up: Ok, this is going to suck – poison ivy sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta to make Batman proud.

Blog #2
In today’s blog I’ll be going through everything that’s helped MY skin through mild eczema. For those that have ever encountered eczema know that it’s a slightly discouraging. It’s super itchy and there isn’t a real solution besides moving to a tropical place. (Hawaii anyone ?) Doctors try selling you “the cure” which is a 50ml tube that costs a little more than a scooter and it still doesn’t work. It’s about 2 years now that I have eczema (mostly in winter) and I’ve been experimenting with products, googling information and speaking to my clients/friends that have eczema ever since then. I started off with lathering organic coconut oil all over my body during every shower after I’d wash but before I shut off the water. Coconut oil can get messy, so I prefer using it in the shower and then patting off the excess oil off while I pat my skin dry. It helped, but minimally and those I know with a more severe case came back to me with negative reviews - Ya, it was soothing but that’s about all. (This could be a great solution for those of you with slightly dehydrated skin). I proceeded to adjust/improve my recipe by mixing vitamin E to my coconut. It was better, but still not enough for our -31 weather + heating + fireplace + + + + blah blah blah. My next improvement was adding grape seed oil to the mix AND using only grape seed oil on bigger eczema spots. In my case, the mix helped tame the itch a lot almost immediately. The direct grape seed helped even more and didn’t take long for the patches to START (it’s obviously not Cinderella’s godmother) healing, but do keep in mind I have mild eczema and I DO use this DAILY. While all this “experimenting” was going on a friend posted that she just opened a small business of home-made organic body products called ElskaBody. HELLO ! My attention was all hers. I started off by ordering 1 item (a sugar scrub), I didn’t want to go crazy just yet I’m picky with my products and wanted to test things out slowly slowly first. Tried it the day I received it and it was love at first sight. I straight away bought a whipped body butter (I’m currently on my 3rd 8oz container). It was the perfect addition to the family. Another tiny tip is to be cautious what you wash your body with, make sure there aren’t too many chemicals and artificial fragrances. So what’s my solution to taming and slowly healing my eczema you may ask ? I’ve developed a DAILY routine where I’ll coat my entire body or where I feel it’s needed most with my homemade mix (consisting of coconut oil, vitamin E and Grape seed oil) during my shower. I almost ALWAYS put it on my face and also use it as spot treatment during the day if I feel the need. For my more stubborn patches I spot treat with JUST grape seed oil at least twice a day. Then the last step is I use my ElskaBody whipped body butter (Ingredients: coconut oil, shea butter, sweet almond oil, Fragrance of your choice) from my neck to the top of my feet. I support those that have extreme dry or eczema’d skin any or all of these tricks. I’d love to hear your feedback ! To buy ElskaBody products without shipping fees or for Laval pick-up contact me. To purchase directly (shipping fee’s apply) order through http://www.elskabody.com/ NOTE: For any products that contain coconut oil, keep them stored in a cool place – coconut oil melts extremely fast. Blog post #1 After years of putting off writing a blog, here I am and man does it feel great. I’ve never been good at expressing myself whether verbally or on paper. The thoughts are clear in my head, but to translate the thoughts into words ouff –at some point I just didn’t even bother. It is however something I’ve been working on a lot over the last 3 years and today, with a little help from friends I am writing my very first blog ! My boyfriend, Matt is one of the 2 people to thank for this, he’s constantly supporting me and pushing me to what I love and one of those things is my job. Its a few months he’s been kicking me in the butt to write a blog about work related topics, product reviews and everything I fill his ears with (Poor kid haha). So instead of busting his chops with my constant ‘Matt I LOOVEE this product ! It’s so hydrating, the texture is great and the ingredients even better’ I’ll bust yours. The 2nd person is my high school friend, Michelle – one of the most interesting people I know. Mature and wise, she’s a great example that age isn’t always everything, life, what it throws at you and how you take what it throws at you is. She’s given me so much great advice and has such an inspiring point of view on life, it’s beautiful... But I’ll cut all the sappy crap now :p. Mid February she posted a link on Facebook saying “If you haven't signed up for my weekly emails on creative content strategy yet, you should! First one is going out on Monday morning.”, so I did, mostly to support her because I really had no clue what I was signing up to. Best.Subscription.EVER ! Her weekly emails are well structured, easy to read and in the end very motivating and thought provoking – they are like a HOW TO for running a business, everything seems simpler. I personally love to read them before bed, ironically they are soothing and leave me in a positive mindset. Michelle’s goal, through her weekly newsletters, is the following: “I help creative entrepreneurs (and by ‘creative entrepreneurs’ I mean anyone who is creative about how they do business) identify a voice for their brand and establish themselves as the kind of expert others will want to gravitate to, follow and buy from. From your message—to your website—to your social media feed: I’ll help you put together a solid strategy for your online presence through methods that are honest, educational and true to your brand’s voice. By the time I’m done with you, we’ll have crafted a whole boat load of creative ways to tell your brand’s story and grow your business.” I strongly suggest everyone (especially anyone with a business or who is self-employed) check out her website: http://www.shellsinthekeys.com/ To end this blog I leave you with this quote: “keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.” |
