Nail color of the month:
Color of the month of July 2015 was a BEAUTIFUL summer color. A almost teal color. I bought it mid-July and even at that it’s been the most used nail polish color.
A few years ago, after watching the movie “Pay it forward” (which inspired the peanut butter out of me) I decided to exactly as the movie inspired me to do: pay it forward ! I started off with what I like to think is a big gestures: I’d feed homeless people downtown, I didn’t feel right with giving them the money they originally asked for BUT I’d offer them a meal from the closest McDonald’s instead and boy oh boy the smile on their faces. One guy’s story was actually super interesting, spent a while talking/listening to him and how he’s basically been travelling the world by train ever since his mom kicked him out of the house at the age 14. He said he saw it as an opportunity to discover life/the world and meet new people and live different experiences. Super cool that he turned a shitty situation into the best he could.
I also helped my friend (Mike) raise money for his ride to conquer cancer and things like that. I felt as time went by I realized I hadn’t paid anything forward in a “big way” in while. I would still do little things like hold doors open for people which surprisingly makes a lot of people smile but I wanted to do something BIG again, something more, I didn’t know what though, but I had 100% faith in the universe and that it would throw something at me soon enough, I just had to be patient and open to the signs.
I speak to my friend (Vanessa) almost daily and I’m not entirely sure how the topic came about but she mentioned that her friends, friends, friend was raising money for breast cancer and that girl was going to shave her hair off. My heart sang. This was it ! This was the sign I was looking for ! What a beautiful chain of people trying to help people. THAT’S HOW IT WORKS, one person helps one person and then the other helps another and before we know it, you’ve indirectly paid it forward to so many people – so many smiles, so many better days, all because of that 1 person ! I can’t help but smile at the thought of it.
That ramble being rambled… At the end of July 2015, I started helping my friends, friends, friends raise money ! Her goal was to raise 10,000$ but when I spoke to her for the first time ever on July 24th she said she was at 10,500$.. soooooooooo why not aim for 15,000 $ !?! She’ll be shaving her REALLY long hair in honor of everyone that’s fought, is fighting and unfortunately will fight. The way I’m helping is by donating 2$ from every “shellac” OR regular nail polish manicure I do until August 29th, 2015.
The pay it forward ISN’T over yet though. Another way I’m helping Vanessa help a friend is by collecting bra’s. For every bra that’s collected, 1$ each bra is donated to the breast cancer foundation AND the generosity doesn’t stop there ! Every bra that in good shape is donated to women that are in need, amazing, right ?! So if YOU are looking for a way to pay it forward, feel free to help us out. Donate a bra or get your nails did ! Every donation is appreciated.
Another favorite of the month, was seeing and spending time with my family from out of Edmonton. As much as the circumstances sucked (we had 2 funerals in 1 week) it was still amazing seeing them, being with them, talking with then and laughing with them - creating memories with them. It’s unfortunate that they live so far but distance clearly doesn’t stop bonds from building and being kept. On that note, my family in general is just simply amazing, such a huge family, but everyone gets along and everyone is always super supportive of each other – it’s so dang beautiful and I am SO grateful.
Which leads me to another favorite, my dad’s and his girlfriend’s annual “show and shine/B.B.Q” at their farm in Ontario. The weather was beautiful and it was nice to see people smiling and sharing happy moments outside and eating together. And of course the jeeps and muscle cars added SO much to the beauty of it all !
The last two July 2015 favorites were two separate road trips, both with different people and different destinations. The first one was to Lake Missawippe, it was another beautiful day and it was spend in a pedal boat, on a lake, just breathing in the air and enjoying the moment (and taking selfies with the beautiful scenery haha). After Lake Missawippe we ventured off to find a lavender field which we found and was absolutely beautiful !
Road trip number 2 was a random, spontaneous adventure to one of the boarders. We ventured a few Km passed the boarder, explored a grocery store that was opened pretty late, bought some random things, drove an electric wheel-chair, laughed. Just a great moment in life.
Quote of the month: “Life is so damn short. For fuck sake, just do what makes you happy.”
